An Operating System is the fundamental software that controls a computer system. It controls the way your hardware behaves, the communication with peripherals such as a monitor, a printer or a keyboard, the allocation of memory between your applications, plus the prioritization of apps if multiple ones run concurrently. Each program that's installed on a computer system works by sending requests to the OS for various services using an application program interface (API). The contact with the OS can be achieved via a Graphical User Interface (GUI) or a command line. In the web hosting world, the OS is what runs a server together with all of the software installed on it, which includes not only website scripts, but, in addition every other application such as a VOIP or a game server. In case there're virtual machines created, they work with a guest OS that is run on the server host OS.

Multiple OS in VPS Web Hosting

We provide three different Linux releases for the Operating System of our virtual private servers - Debian, CentOS and Ubuntu. These are among the safest and the most reliable OSs available and we provide all three rather than just one because we realize that you may want to set up some software with specific requirements for the Operating System it shall run on. The latter is because each of the three Operating Systems has a large support community behind it and there are various software programs you may install on the web hosting server. Your OS selection will also determine what hosting Control Panel can be set up on the VPS if you would like to use one and for that reason we offer several Control Panels as well. In case you decide that you need another OS, our tech support team can quickly wipe the existing one and set up the one that you want. We also offer an optional service to have the OS on your VPS updated weekly.
